Our MD, John Fraser, signs up for charity sleepout…AGAIN

On Monday 11th November our Managing Director John Fraser will, once again, have his flask held close to him in his sleeping bag, resting his head on the cold floor as he prepares for a night sleeping rough. Why? He will be taking part in the CEO Sleepout event at Preston Park Museum in Stockton.

The charity, which raises money to fight homelessness and poverty across the UK, was set up in 2013 by philanthropist Andy Preston after two successful sleepout events were held at Middlesbrough FC and Newcastle United. CEO Sleepout events are now hosted in a number of cities across the UK each year, with executives from Leeds, Manchester, London and Northumberland to take part before the end of 2019.

In its six-year history, the CEO Sleepout has had 2000 executives sleeping rough, raising a staggering £2.2 million to support a number of local charities within a few miles of their host cities. The money raised also helps fund unique initiatives, such as the highly acclaimed Fork in the Road restaurant in Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston set up the restaurant in late 2016, with the purpose of creating training, work experience and employment opportunities for people who want to make a fresh start, such as the long-term unemployed and suitable inmates who are readying for life outside of prison.

When asked why he was taking part in the event, MD John Fraser remarked “With our busy lives many of us sometimes forget how fortunate we are. Many homeless people are in this situation through no fault of their own and if we stop and think about it, it’s a situation we could all find ourselves in. Having taken part in a CEO SleepOut in 2017 I can empathise with those who are unfortunate enough to have to experience this everyday of their lives”.

There are a number of directors of some well-known local businesses joining John in 5 week’s time, including the Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston, Punch Robson Solicitors Managing Partner Elaine Mclaine Wood and Sembcorp CEO Nomi Ahmad. John is aiming to raise £800, and with your help he believes he can change someone’s life. “If one night of discomfort for me could make a difference to someone’s whole life, this event will be a huge success for me”.
