Made in Stockton-on-Tees Feature: Biochemica Water
Stockton-on-Tees has a long-standing tradition in manufacturing that is still very much in evidence today. Through our regular Made in Stockton-on-Tees feature we take a look at some of the Borough’s manufacturing success stories.
Based at their head office at Cowpen Lane Industrial Estate in Billingham, Biochemica Water is the largest independently owned water treatment company in the United Kingdom.
Biochemica Water specialises in legionella control, boiling and cooling water treatment as well as chemical supply services which are fully supported by the company’s engineering and equipment solutions.
With a workforce of over 70 people they have a strong track record in taking on apprentices from the local area, helping them to progress into full-time work with qualifications.
John Fraser, Managing Director, says: “Our base in Stockton-on-Tees and the wider Tees Valley has helped to provide us with top quality suppliers, a huge customer base with further potential and a workforce to match – we wouldn’t swap it for the world.”
Biochemica Water celebrated a vintage year in 2017 as their 10th anniversary in business saw them win the ‘Small Business of the Year’ gong at the North East of England Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC) Awards, where they were recognised for their recruitment, sales growth and product development.
But the growth of the business is showing no signs of stopping there.
John says: “With the purchase of a business in Scotland, the setting up of our Northern Ireland office and potential expansion to Bangladesh, we are exploring new avenues to export our expertise, knowledge and experience.”
