SUCCESSFUL APPRENTICSHIP SCHEME SEE’S BIOCHEMICA WATER APPOINT ANOTHER YOUNG ENGINEER AT INEOS NITRILES
Billingham based water and wastewater treatment firm Biochemica Water have taken on their third apprentice to be based at INEOS Nitriles in Seal Sands.
The apprenticeship scheme set up by Biochemica Water and INEOS Nitriles sees the water treatment firm work with local colleges, such as Middlesbrough College and Redcar and Cleveland College, to find the best local talent in the area who will then work with them on the INEOS Nitriles plant at Seal Sands.
The successful scheme has recently seen its latest graduate, Stephen Moore, being handed a full-time contract at Biochemica Water. Stephen completed his 2-year Laboratory Technician apprenticeship in June, studying at Redcar and Cleveland College 1 day per week. He now has plans to study for a HND and eventually a degree.
Such was the success of the scheme that Biochemica Water and INEOS were more than happy to secure another two apprentices following the completion of Stephen’s course, and recently employed Nathan Dicicco and Jack Jarvis as Laboratory Technician apprentices. Similar to Stephen, Nathan and Jack will assist in providing lab based analytical services to INEOS Nitriles, helping to ensure the quality of the final product and the efficiency and longevity of the supporting process systems.
Biochemica Water MD John Fraser believes the apprenticeship scheme has huge benefits for all involved.
“The scheme we have put in place has seen everyone involved reap the benefits, INEOS are getting a great service from our apprentices, we are getting enthusiastic young adults who grow to become impressive professionals and most importantly the apprentices get a first-class education and work experience in a phenomenal laboratory at INEOS whilst earning a living.
“We have been so impressed with how the scheme worked for Stephen, who we have given a full-time contract, and we are expecting to see the same from Nathan and Jack. With this scheme we deliver real added value to INEOS NITRILES which strengthens the partnership between the two companies.”
INEOS Nitriles CEO Paul Overment was pleased to be working on this scheme with Biochemica Water.
“INEOS is very pleased to continue working with Biochemica Water to train and develop new apprentices in their chosen career. We recognise the need to provide on-the-job training opportunities and pleased to support the process with Biochemica Water, and our other contractor partners.
“This initiative compliments the INEOS graduate programme and the production technician training programme to provide strong skill sets for the future.”
The scheme with INEOS Nitriles is another highlight for Biochemica Water in a successful year in which they were named NEPIC Small Business of the Year.
